h.ART are a small dedicated group of volunteers with the aim of increasing arts activity in the central Adelaide Hills region. Our first project is Art@the heart (of the Hills) – a pop up gallery project currently utilising empty spaces within the Adelaide Hills Business and Tourism Centre (AHBTC) (previously the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill complex).
The first popup gallery exhibition was held in August 2015 during the South Australian Living Artists festival (SALA). The SALA exhibition, ‘Blankets revisited: Woven at the Mill’ required artists to create artworks using fabric from Onkaparinga Woollen blankets. It involved 42 artists from the hills, metropolitan and regional areas.
‘The Mill in Focus – Then and Now’ Photography Exhibition was held in January 2016. Photographs on loan from the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill Museum were displayed alongside contemporary photographs by 6 local photographers.
‘The Community Collection’ is being held in April/May and invites community members to be involved in the curation by offering works to be displayed.
A 2016 SALA exhibition, ‘Threads of Industry, Changing Place, Making Place’ is currently being organised.
